How to Apply

  1. Visit the official UPESSC website, www.upessc.up.gov.in.
  2. Complete One Time Registration (OTR), which is mandatory before submitting the application.
  3. Refer to the Hindi/English user manual and tutorial videos on the website if needed before applying.
  4. Log in and fill the OTR-based online application form for the Principal post in English (the API proforma may be filled in Roman script).
  5. Upload a scanned signature (white background, JPG/JPEG, 10 KB-200 KB, 140x110 pixel resolution) and a passport-size photo (JPG/JPEG, 30 KB-300 KB, 300-600 pixel resolution).
  6. Upload all required certificates and documents in PDF format, each between 50 KB and 500 KB.
  7. Pay the application fee of Rs. 3,000/- through Credit Card, Debit Card, or Net Banking.
  8. Note that once the application is Final Submitted, category, sub-category, date of birth, and gender cannot be changed.
  9. Download and print the submitted application form; retain at least three copies, two of which must be produced at the interview along with the required documents.

Selection Process

  • Written Examination - 360 marks total, comprising 120 objective-type multiple-choice questions (Part A: General Knowledge, 40 questions/120 marks; Part B: Administrative Aptitude Test, 80 questions/240 marks). Each correct answer carries 3 marks; 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect or multiple answer.
  • Only candidates meeting the minimum Research Score of 110 are considered eligible.
  • Interview - 40 marks, for candidates shortlisted on the basis of written exam marks. Shortlisted candidates must indicate a college-wise preference order (Adhikarita) at the time of interview, which is binding.
  • No travelling or daily allowance is payable for appearing in the written exam or interview.

Difficulty distribution is approximately 50% average, 30% difficult, and 20% most difficult. Cut-off marks and candidate scores will be published on the Commission's website after the selection process.

Tenure of Appointment

A Principal is appointed for a tenure of five years, extendable for a second five-year term based on a performance evaluation by a committee constituted by the concerned university. On completion of the tenure, the incumbent reverts to their substantive Professor post at the original institution.

Reservation Policy

Based on the requisition for 111 Principal posts furnished by the Director of Higher Education, Uttar Pradesh, vertical (category-wise) and horizontal (Divyangjan and other) reservation for all categories has been indicated as Nil. For Divyangjan candidates, the sub-categories identified as suitable against these posts are OA, OL, B, BA, LV, D, HH, LC, DW, and AAV.

Other Important Eligibility Conditions

  • A candidate may submit only one online application against all vacant posts covered under this advertisement.
  • The Commission does not provide separate counselling on eligibility; candidates must verify all conditions before applying.
  • Applications will not be accepted if the date of birth is not mentioned, or if the candidate is above 62 years as on 01 July 2026.
  • Only the date of birth recorded in the High School or equivalent certificate is considered valid.
  • A false declaration may lead to debarment from this and future Commission examinations/selections.
  • Fees paid for an erroneous application will not be refunded or adjusted against any other application.
  • If multiple applications are submitted, only the last (final) submitted application is accepted; others are treated as cancelled.
  • Scribe facility is available to Divyangjan candidates with 20 minutes of extra time per hour; scribe details must be registered with the Commission at least one week before the exam.
  • Only a black ball point pen may be used on the OMR sheet; correction fluid, eraser, or blade will lead to rejection of the OMR sheet.
  • No daily or travelling allowance is payable for the written exam or interview.
  • Male candidates must not indicate preference for Postgraduate (Women) or Graduate (Women) colleges.
  • Candidates for Law college posts may prefer only Law college posts; candidates for B.Ed. college posts may prefer only B.Ed. college posts.
